Tim Clissold
Chief Executive Officer and Legal Representative
Tim has lived and worked in China for the past twenty years and is fluent in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese. Over the past 20 years, he has negotiated over fifty complex transactions in China with aggregate value of over $1 billion, and has travelled to virtually every region of the country.
He graduated in 1982 with an MA in Physics and Theoretical Physics from Cambridge University, after which he joined Arthur Andersen to start up their China Investment Services practice, operating out of Hong Kong.
In 1993, he joined a private equity group that raised and invested $420 million into 20 different businesses in China. In 1996, Tim became the COO of the group and pushed the group into profit within two and a half years.
In 2001 he decided to focus on complex asset recovery situations in China, working first at Price Waterhouse Coopers and later as General Manager of Goldman Sachs non-performing loan recovery business in Beijing.
In 2004, Tim published his first book, Mr. China, which won an Economist Magazine ‘Book of the Year Award' and has been translated into 12 languages. Tim is also Chairman of Auric Digital, a company devoted to raising the standards of Mandarin teaching and China Studies in schools in the UK.
Most recently, he joined Peony to establish our CDM operations in China.
Mina Guli
Vice Chairman
Mina has dedicated her career to working in the arena of renewable energy and climate change.
Having graduated from Melbourne University with a degree in Law, she went on to work for major Australian law firms focusing on energy and infrastructure.
In 1999, Mina took a position as in-house counsel at the Sydney Futures Exchange and whilst there, designed the structure for the first carbon credits to be traded on an exchange. Following this, she moved back to the private sector, devising the first standard contract for the purchase of carbon credits, and negotiating the first global sale of forestry credits.
In 2002, Mina joined the World Bank, where she was the principal advisor to the World Bank's Carbon Finance Business and established seven of the nine carbon funds currently managed by Bank, as well as negotiating deals for the purchase of carbon credits in China, Indonesia, India, and Nepal, totalling more than $250 million.
In 2005, Mina moved to London to join Climate Change Capital as the global head of procurement, transacting projects worth over $500 million, and developing a pipeline of projects in China worth a further $800 million.
Most recently, she joined Peony Capital as Vice Chairman. Her primary responsibility is to identify CDM projects and transact with our Chinese partners.
Michael Cronin
Chief Operating Officer
Michael has lived and worked in China since 1994.He graduated in Mathematics from Durham University and is an associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ACA).
From 2006 to 2007 Michael ran the Leadership Consulting practice for Hewitt Associates in China. He worked closely with clients in the areas of leadership assessment, executive coaching and change management.
He joined Hewitt from ASIMCO Technologies Limited, where he was Executive Vice President, responsible for Finance and Human Resources globally. Joining ASIMCO upon its formation, he helped build the company into one of the largest, automotive components manufacturers in China. ASIMCO was named one of the top 10 employers in China in 2001 and 2005, and Michael's contribution to that achievement was recognised when he received the Award for Outstanding Contribution to HR in China and Hong Kong in the annual China Staff HR awards.
Before moving to China, Michael was an investment executive at 3i plc for 5 years, and a manager at Arthur Andersen in London, Hong Kong and Brisbane.
Michael is a regular speaker at events in the Asia-Pacific region on leadership and finance related issues.
Most recently, he joined Peony Capital as Chief Operating Officer.
