Working in China
A deep understanding. A firm commitment. A flourishing relationship.
Over the past 25 years, China has experienced the largest sustained period of economic growth in human history. With economic growth averaging over 10% p.a. China is predicted to become the world's largest emitter of greenhouse gases by the end of 2007.
The Chinese government has prioritised the work of energy conservation and emissions reductions, and is actively encouraging the development of CDM projects across China. Indeed, in June 2007, Point Carbon rated China as the number 1 host country for CDM Projects.
The government has pledged to develop renewable energies including hydropower, biomass, solar, geothermal and wind power in rural areas. It also supports the faster exploitation of coal mine methane as a power source and continues its efforts to develop natural gas as a clean energy alternative to coal. In addition, it plans to introduce tighter emissions standards on vehicles and announce new building regulations that promote energy efficiency. Efforts will also be made to “significantly raise public awareness of climate change.”
Peony Capital is best placed to support these efforts, having a deep understanding of China's business practices, and her people and customs.
